Construction Can Be Healthy

We hear all the time about how manual labor jobs are terrible for health and while some of that may be true, many believe the people who talk about the negatives to these jobs are the Debbie Downers who focus on the bad. Let’s turn things around and talk about some of the positives and benefits that are overlooked of one of the most notorious jobs to work: Construction.

Benefit # 1 – Sunshine

Getting sun is one of the most overlooked ways to be healthier and happier as sunlight is a natural happiness stimulant that gives energy.  It is also a great source of vitamin D which is can be absorbed through the skin. If you’re not getting enough vitamin D, bones will not form properly. For children this causes rickets, a disease characterized by growth retardation and various skeletal deformities, including bowed legs.

Benefit #2 – Moving

With the present age technology, we have our computers do things for us. The fact is we don’t move nearly as much and that has some serious negative affects on our body and our health over time. Working in a physically demanding construction job such as Dimensional Construction keeps you moving and keeps your heart rate up which is obviously a good thing. Even just simple walking has it’s benefits such as:

  • Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
  • Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
  • Improve blood lipid profile
  • Maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity
  • Enhance mental well being
  • Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer
  • Reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes

Having a job in construction is no doubt going to keep you more active than your suicidal desk job.
